Hey there, welcome to Ingredients First—where haircare is real, honest, and made to celebrate you. I’m Garvit, and my co-founder Mukul and I are here to share how this all started.

Back in college, Mukul and I met during a startup internship. We bonded over the idea of doing something meaningful, but at the time, we didn’t know what that would be. Fast forward a few years—I became a hairdresser, experimenting with all sorts of products every day. I loved seeing people light up after a great hair transformation. But as I got deeper into the industry, I started noticing something off.

Straightenings, Keratins, Cysteines—these treatments were everywhere, promising “smooth, perfect hair.” I did them too, thinking I was giving people their dream hair. But then, I started seeing the aftermath—damaged hair, irritated scalps, and disappointed clients coming back after months, wondering why their hair was worse than before. That’s when I dug deeper and realized the harsh truth: most of these treatments were full of toxic ingredients, and big brands were selling hairdressers and customers a lie.

At the same time, I came across this amazing community of people who embraced their natural hair, rocking their curls, waves, and textures with pride. They weren’t trying to “fix” anything—just owning who they were. And that hit me. Why were we being told that natural hair needed to be tamed? Why weren’t salons actually trained to care for textured hair properly? Why was “beautiful” always sold in a bottle full of empty promises?

When I came back from Mumbai and started talking to Mukul about all this, we knew we had to do something. And that’s how Ingredients First was born. We wanted to create haircare that made sense—products that actually worked, were safe, and helped people love their real hair.

We built our own in-house R&D lab and manufacturing unit because we wanted to be hands-on in every step. We learned how every product is made, from sourcing raw materials to formulation, testing, and packaging. And when we say our products go through strict quality checks, we don’t just mean ticking off technical parameters. We make sure every ingredient is high-quality and effective—not just something to slap on a label.

It’s been three years of research, testing, and perfecting our formulations, and for the past year, we’ve been selling exclusively in my salon and a few select places. We’ve tested our products on almost every scalp and hair type, improved each batch, and refined every formula to be the best it can be. And now? We finally feel ready to bring Ingredients Firstto the world.

None of this would have been possible without our families, friends, and the brave clients at our salon who kept trying our formulations and giving us the real talk. We’re still learning, evolving, and pushing for better.
